Egenera Expands Processing Blade Family with Four New Blades Based on Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 7300 Series

MARLBORO, Mass.—September 5, 2007—Egenera Inc., the data center virtualization company, announced it will expand its Egenera® Processing Blade™ (pBlade™) module family with four new offerings based on the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 7350 processor launched today (see Intel press release).  The new pBlades will include 16, 32, 64 and 96GB memory configurations, representing Egenera's largest memory offering to date.  All of the new Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor pBlades will be certified to support Microsoft® Windows®, RedHat® Enterprise Linux®, SUSE Linux Enterprise, Oracle® Enterprise Linux and Sun® Solaris™ 10 operating systems.

The new Egenera pBlade modules will be populated with four Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors 7350 at a speed of 2.93GHz with 16, 32, 64 or 96GB of memory.  While other blade systems may require the use of double-width blades for configurations utilizing four CPUs or large memory configurations, Egenera continues to use its standard 1U form factor for all new blades, including the 96GB pBlade.  By delivering the highest-performing configurations in a standard form factor, Egenera customers never have to compromise footprint to reap the benefits of advanced processing technologies.

Processing Blade modules within the Egenera BladeFrame® System are diskless and stateless, enabling automated allocation, repurposing and failover since any server can assume the identity of any other server.  The BladeFrame system combines these stateless blades with Egenera PAN Manager™ virtualization software to dramatically reduce data center complexity and deliver an agile, highly-available infrastructure.  A single Egenera system can run up to 24 pBlade modules simultaneously with various processor architectures and operating systems, enabling customers to automatically align computing resources to application requirements and scale performance dynamically.

"The newest Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor-based pBlades offer the highest performing CPU and largest memory configuration, with no compromise on footprint" said Susan Davis, vice president, Egenera.  "Egenera continues to expand and diversify pBlade offerings in order to deliver choice, flexibility and performance to our customers.  Working closely with Intel, we ensure that we're again, one of the first to market with the latest technologies."

"The new Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 7300 series provides the performance and reliability to handle IT's toughest jobs, such as virtualization and consolidation," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel.  "The capabilities of Intel processors running on Egenera's stateless blade architecture offer customers the enhanced performance they need to run business- and mission-critical operations smoothly and efficiently."

Availability
The Egenera pBlade family based on the Intel Model x7350 processors will be commercially available in Q4 of 2007.
