PAN Portability software by Egenera moves all applications running on one PAN system to a backup PAN system residing in a remote data center. PAN Portability works in conjunction with your SAN replication services to ensure that application data, software images, and PAN system configuration data remain synchronized and accessible by both the production data center and the disaster recovery data center.
PAN Portability provides verifiable and automatic n+1 disaster recovery:
- Verifiable means that PAN Portability guarantees the production environment will be reproduced exactly, regardless of how often you make changes to the system configuration
- N+1 means that you can allocate one PAN system to serve as a disaster-recovery backup to many production data centers
- Automatic means that once you confirm a disaster recovery operation, PAN Portability automatically migrates all of the state information associated with the production PAN system, including application services, log files and administrative security settings. PAN Portability also automatically adjusts for differences between the production and backup system, including hardware configuration and storage and network settings.
PAN Portability migrates a PAN system generally in less than one hour, allowing you the highest levels of asset protection and business continuance.
In addition, you can use your backup PAN system for other workloads. When a disaster recovery operation starts, PAN Portability will automatically halt all of the services running on the backup system and save the PAN system configuration for later use.
