Egenera\'s BladeFrame System Named Finalist for Best of Show Award at COMDEX Fall 2001

-IDG Editors Select Egenera as Best Server Finalist-

Marlboro, Mass.-November 28, 2001- Egenera, Inc., an emerging leader in data center infrastructure, today announced that its BladeFrameTM system was named a finalist in the Best Server category of the Best of COMDEX Fall 2001. The Best of COMDEX Awards are sponsored by IDG publications CIO, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Network World and PC World.

The BladeFrame and its Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture deliver a radically new approach to data center computing by consolidating and simplifying the allocation and management of processing capacity. Leveraging server-class Intel® processors and the Red Hat Linux operating system, the Egenera system represents the industry's first open, non-proprietary computing platform purpose-built for high-end data centers. The BladeFrame creates a pool of processing resources deployable entirely through software. Thus, processing power can be dynamically increased, decreased and reallocated to support new applications or accommodate variable demand on existing applications without purchasing, installing or managing incremental equipment.

The Best of COMDEX Awards recognize the most innovative and influential products and technologies introduced at COMDEX Fall 2001, which took place November 12-16, 2001 in Las Vegas. A panel of award-winning editors from CIO, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Network World and PC World judged nearly 400 entries prior to and during the event and announced finalists on Tuesday, November 13. Award winners were announced in a ceremony on Wednesday, November 14 in Las Vegas.

"Gaining this recognition at an event with the reach and influence of COMDEX, coupled with Egenera's recent Network Servers and Peripherals Best of Show award at NetWorld+Interop 2001 Atlanta, quantifies the value of our BladeFrame system to data centers across the board," said Susan Davis, vice president of product marketing and management, Egenera, Inc. "With this achievement, we believe that IDG editors have validated the significance of our PAN architecture and its benefits to customers."
