--Relationships with Industry Leaders Drive Exceptional Customer Value--
Marlboro, Mass.--July 15, 2002--Egenera Inc., the leader in next-generation data center infrastructure, today unveiled the Egenera Alliance program, a strategic initiative designed to ensure that customers derive maximum value from an EgeneraTM BladeFrameTM deployment. With this program, Egenera has further strengthened its relationships with industry-leading suppliers of enterprise platforms, software applications and professional services.
"From its inception, the BladeFrame was developed with the total datacenter environment in mind," explained Mike Thompson, chief operating officer, Egenera. "Unlike legacy server vendors, we understand that processing is just one aspect of the IT operation and that our platform must consider the overall infrastructure. This holistic view gives us the customer's perspective, ensuring that our next-generation platform solves multiple pain points and delivers unprecedented value. We are gratified both by the number and caliber of the organizations that have chosen to work with us toward this datacenter of the future, and welcome them to the Egenera Alliance program."
The Egenera Alliance program encompasses three types of relationships: Enterprise Alliances, Assured Solution Alliances and Professional Services Alliances.
The Egenera BladeFrame and its Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture simplify the installation, deployment and administration of processing resources. To help customers extend these benefits to other platforms, Egenera has forged relationships with leading providers of datacenter systems and solutions, including:
-
BEA Systems: The BladeFrame is ideal for a three-tier Internet application infrastructure. BEA and its WebLogic family of application servers are among the most trusted names in e-business and offer a proven platform for Web-based solutions.
-
Intel: By following the high end of the Intel® processor roadmap, Egenera offers customers quantifiable advantages over proprietary RISC/UNIX systems. With Intel Inside®, Egenera is pushing the limits of enterprise server price/performance.
-
Oracle: Running Oracle solutions on the BladeFrame enables customers to lower cost of ownership and improve business performance by simplifying resource allocation and high availability clustering for three-tier Web applications and clustered database systems.
-
Red Hat: As the market leader in open source solutions, Red Hat was the logical choice for the BladeFrame Linux distribution. The Egenera system has been designated by Red Hat as a Certified Hardware Platform and has earned the "Red Hat Ready" designation, assuring customers that applications compatible with Red Hat Linux run out-of-the-box.
-
Turbolinux: Turbolinux and Egenera provide an integrated approach to automating server and application deployment. Combining the BladeFrame system with PowerCockpit software offers customers a complete solution, from defining the overall processing and networking environment to deploying, configuring and redeploying individual servers and applications.
-
VERITAS Software: As the leader in storage management software, VERITAS understands that openness and interoperability are essential for customers to establish heterogeneous storage environments that are easier to manage, more reliable and more adaptive to changing business requirements. As a member of the
-
VERITAS EnabledTM program, Egenera maintains tight interoperability with VERITAS data protection, storage virtualization, disaster recovery and application availability solutions, starting with the VERITAS Foundation SuiteTM on Linux. Collaborative efforts involve product integration, qualification, maintenance and ongoing technical support.
"Enterprise customers demand the assurance of the solutions that we provide with Turbolinux's PowerCockpit server provisioning product and Egenera's BladeFrame system," said Dino Brusco, vice president of marketing, Turbolinux. "With the Turbolinux and Egenera products working seamlessly together, enterprise customers have a single solution for automating the data center."
"We are pleased to include Egenera in the VERITAS Enabled program and its family of tested and qualified hardware platforms that have demonstrated interoperability with our industry-leading online storage management products," said John Meaney, director of business development and strategic alliances, VERITAS Software. "Our participation in the Egenera Alliance program, along with the cooperative support agreement between our companies, gives mutual customers the confidence that our products are interoperable, and that VERITAS Software and Egenera will work to coordinate support when our solutions are deployed together."
The Assured Solution Alliances program validates applications for the BladeFrame environment through rigorous testing in Egenera labs. Joint customers receive installation and tuning parameters designed to optimize performance, and benefit from a coordinated response to support requirements.
Tested solutions include: Apache Software Foundation HTTP Server, BEA WebLogic, Intel Compilers and Tools, Egenera BladeFrame KM for BMC Patrol, Oracle 9i Application Server, Oracle 9i Database with Real Application Clusters, Platform LSF, Stalker Software CommuniGate Pro, Tivoli Management Gateway, Turbolinux PowerCockpit, VERITAS Foundation Suite and Zeus Web Server.
"Platform is pleased to collaborate with Egenera to ensure that Platform LSF has been tested and is fully compatible with the innovative Egenera BladeFrame environment," said Randy Bradford, director, technology services, Platform Computing. "By joining the Egenera Assured Solutions program, Platform will provide customers with a fully supported solution offering optimized performance and scalability."
To help customers achieve the benefits of migrating their mission-critical applications from proprietary RISC/UNIX systems to the BladeFrame, Egenera has established professional services relationships with Intel Solution Services, Oracle Consulting Services and Red Hat. Expert assistance is available in the areas of project management, training, tuning and optimization, operations and more. Members of the Professional Services Alliances program are committed to ensuring successful, rapid application deployments for Egenera customers.
