Egenera Announces Four-way Processing Blades Based on 64-bit IntelĀ® XeonTM Processor MP Technology

Marlboro, Mass.—March 29, 2005—Egenera Inc., a leader in utility computing, today announced four-way Egenera® Processing BladeTM configurations based on 64-bit Intel® XeonTM processor MP technology, introduced by Intel today.

Specifications for the new Processing Blades are:

  • Intel Xeon processor MP 3.66 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 8 GB ECC DDR-2 ChipkillTM memory, Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T), Hyper-Threading
  • Intel Xeon processor MP 3.33 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, 8 MB L3 cache, 16 GB ECC DDR-2 Chipkill memory, Intel EM64T, Hyper-Threading

"Egenera introduced two-way Processing Blades based on Intel EM64T last summer in conjunction with Intel's launch," recalled Susan Davis, vice president of marketing and product management at Egenera. "Since then, we've been aggressively migrating our product line from a 32-bit-only environment to the Intel platform with 64-bit memory addressability. Customers have responded enthusiastically based on the extended server lifecycles and improved total cost of ownership these processors provide. We are pleased to see Intel bring EM64T to the Xeon processor MP family, and expect that our new four-way blades will appeal to a broad range of markets and application segments."

Davis continued, "By introducing these Processing Blades concurrently with Intel's launch, Egenera continues to demonstrate its commitment to market leadership. As customers typically run their most mission-critical applications on the BladeFrame® system, our ability to routinely deliver higher-performing blades with large memory capacities is a key advantage."

For the most sophisticated and dynamic enterprises on the planet—that have built up complex, static and underutilized IT infrastructures that stifle business agility—the Egenera BladeFrame system radically simplifies the datacenter and reduces operational complexity to support a highly responsive business. Unlike legacy vendors, Egenera has designed a new server architecture—proven in mission-critical environments—that unlocks the power of the datacenter, allowing customers to scale, increase performance, virtually provision workloads, and attach to networks and storage more efficiently.
