Egenera Inc. and Infocom Corporation Announce Distributor Agreement

Infocom to Resell Egenera BladeFrame System to Communications Service Providers in Japan

Marlboro, Mass.—March 15, 2005—Egenera Inc, a global leader in utility computing, today announced that it has entered into a distributor agreement with Infocom Corporation of Japan. Infocom will resell the Egenera® BladeFrame® system across the Japanese market, with a strong focus on communications service providers.

The Egenera BladeFrame system's unique Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture gives Infocom a proven platform for bringing enhanced services to the telco market. By transforming 80 percent of the I/O devices on a legacy server into software, the BladeFrame enables datacenters to speed time to market, easily scale applications up or down based on immediate requirements, and provide cost-effective high availability.

"A leader in the Japanese marketplace, Infocom combines significant expertise in telecommunications technologies with hosting capabilities and professional services to deliver unique value to customers," said Haruyoshi Iida, president of Egenera Japan and Asia Pacific. "Already, Egenera and Infocom have delivered effective joint solutions to communications service providers. We look forward to further collaborations designed to benefit Infocom's premier customers."

"When a telecommunications company launches a new enhanced service for wireless customers, it's nearly impossible to predict adoption and corresponding volumes. If the projection is too low, service levels suffer and customers are dissatisfied. If projections are too high, money is wasted on underutilized servers," noted Tony Klockenbrink, director, telecom sector, Egenera. "The Egenera BladeFrame system's unique ability to provision servers dynamically in response to changing volumes-as well as its built-in high availability-make it ideally suited for enhanced services. We are pleased that a quality company such as Infocom is bringing this unique value proposition to customers in the Japanese market."
