MARLBORO, Mass. —October 9, 2008—Egenera, Inc. today announced that a division of PetroChina Company Limited (PetroChina), one of the largest oil companies in the world, has standardized on Egenera® as the foundation of its new, more reliable dynamic data center. A sub-division serving four provinces and the city of Shanghai, PetroChina East China Region Sales (PECRS) chose the Egenera platform based on its superior ability to support PECRS’ next-generation data center, especially in terms of simplicity, high performance and resiliency.
The existing data center at PECRS comprises multiple independent hardware systems, which have large data center space requirements, require high power consumption, and are challenged by infrastructure management complexity and low utilization efficiency—with some servers used only once or twice a year. PECRS was looking for a more efficient, virtualized, resilient, responsive and cost-effective infrastructure to support its rapidly expanding sales offices and general business needs. A key requirement was significantly simplifying the data center to improve the performance, efficiency and manageability of the company’s overall IT infrastructure. After comparing several vendors’ solutions, PECRS selected the Egenera BladeFrame® system for each of its six locations.
