MARLBORO, Mass.—October 23, 2006— Egenera Inc., a global leader in datacenter virtualization architecture, today announced that Metavante® Corporation has deployed the Egenera® BladeFrame® system within its healthcare payments division. Metavante Healthcare Payment Solutions will use Egenera solutions to support healthcare account enrollment/opening, account processing and its industry-leading proprietary benefit debit card application and platform.
With healthcare open enrollment for 2007 beginning last month, the Egenera platform gives Metavante new levels of processing power at the advent of its busiest time of year. Transactions, such as plan/employer setup, employee enrollment and card transactions, generally spike to 16 times normal levels during this period.
By transforming 80 percent of physical legacy-server components into software, the Egenera system enables datacenter virtualization, wherein processing, networking and storage resources are pooled and allocated to applications based on immediate business requirements. Metavante Healthcare Payment Solutions is using this unique architecture, referred to by Egenera as a Processing Area Network (PAN), to accommodate demand spikes, implement N+1 high availability, improve performance and simplify management.
