Egenera to Support 8th-Generation BladeFrame Blades based on Six-Core Intel Xeon Processor 5600 Series

Converged infrastructure servers to incorporate latest Intel processors

Marlboro, MA – March 16, 2010

News Facts

  • Egenera announces new Egenera® BladeFrame® support for the latest family of 2-socket Egenera Processing Blade™ offerings based on Intel® Xeon® 5600 series processors.
  • Optimized for processing density and energy efficiency, the new 12-core Processing Blade(pBladeTM) will reduce power consumption in half while significantly increasing processing capacity.
  • New Egenera pBlades will remain fully compatible with all three generations of BladeFrame systems   sold in the last nine years, allowing any customer to easily upgrade existing systems to meet current business requirements and future virtualization needs.
  • Egenera pBlades are diskless and stateless, enabling automated allocation, repurposing and failover, since any processing blade can assume the identity of any other blade in the BladeFrame, whether physical or virtual. This architecture forms the core of Egenera’s production-proven converged infrastructure solutions.
  • Egenera pBlades coupled with PAN Manager® Software by Egenera enables customers to manage their mission-critical data centers, controlling data center costs while improving availability and responsiveness.
  • General availability of the new Egenera pBlades is expected in Q2CY10.
